12 illegal oil refineries in Nigeria destroyed by military

Army Spokesperson Onyema Nwachukwu said in a statement that the “Delta Safe” operation continues in the oil region in the south of the country.

Sharing the information that 12 illegal refineries were detected in the operation, Nwachukwu stated that 60 crude oil furnaces, 14 oil depots, 6 wooden boats loaded with stolen crude oil were seized.


Hundreds of illegal oil refineries operate in Nigeria

Nigeria’s identified oil reserves are approximately 37 billion barrels, accounting for 3.1 percent of the world’s reserves.

Nigeria, which is among the top 15 countries in the world in crude oil production, is the 8th country with the highest oil reserves in the world and 6th in terms of oil exports.

In the Delta region, where oil fields are located, incidents such as sabotage by armed groups in oil fields, clashes and kidnappings are taking place.
