Husameddin al-Cebabli, Spokesperson of the Tunisian National Security Forces, made a written statement regarding the irregular migration attempts.
Noting that the security forces prevented 6 irregular migration attempts in various parts of the country, Cebabli stated that 186 immigrants from Sub-Saharan African countries were rescued in the operations.
More than 27 thousand irregular migrants caught in Tunisia in 3 months
The Tunisian National Security Forces, in a statement on 7 April, reported that in the operations carried out between 1 January and 31 March off Tunisia, nearly 900 irregular migration attempts were prevented and more than 27 thousand irregular migrants were caught, mostly from Sub-Saharan African countries.
Every year, thousands of African irregular migrants come to Tunisia to reach Europe via the Mediterranean in hopes of a better life.
Some of the immigrants from Sub-Saharan African countries, who have lived in immigrant neighborhoods in Tunisia for many years, manage to reach Europe, while others die at sea.
