23 dead dolphins washed ashore in Landes over the weekend, according to the news of France Bleu, a network of local and regional radio stations in France.
It is estimated that the dead dolphins washed ashore due to the westerly wind.
While the marine animal observatory Pelagis was on the scene to investigate the cause of death of the dolphins, it was observed that some of the dolphins had broken ribs and cut fins.
Pascal Ducasse, a volunteer at Pelagis, said they speculated that beached dolphins died by being caught in fishermen’s nets.
