29 people abducted in attack in Nigeria’s capital

According to the Daily Trust newspaper, gunmen who came to Yewuti village in FCT’s Kwali district opened fire last night.

In the attack, 29 people, including children, were kidnapped, and two people managed to escape from the attackers.

Former Kwali District Vice President Alhaji Zubairu Jibrin confirmed the attack, stating that his brother and his brother’s family were among the abducted.

Jibrin sought urgent government assistance to release the abductees.

Kidnapping is punishable by the death penalty in Nigeria, yet kidnappings for ransom are common. As part of the fight against the increasing security problems in the country, it was forbidden to pay ransom to armed persons.
