Chiapas state prosecutors announced that an armed attack was carried out on a pickup truck on a road known as the migrant route in the border area 50 kilometers from the state’s Siltepec district.
Six people in the truck were killed in the attack.
Although the region is known as a migrant route, it is also stated that it has been the scene of a power struggle between the Jalisco and Sinaloa cartels recently.
Information on the identities of the people who died as a result of the attack or whether they were immigrants was not shared.
After the attack, in Motozintla, the largest city in the region, the people protested, claiming that the cartels threatened and extorted the residents of the region.
