Pakistan National Disaster Management Agency announced that the number of people who lost their lives due to monsoon rains on 25 June-12 July increased to 91 and the number of injured to 151 across the country.
In the statement, it was stated that 99 houses were damaged due to heavy rains on the said dates.
11,000 people were evacuated
According to the news in the Dawn newspaper, 15 villages were affected by the flood in the Kasur region of Punjab province when the Sutlej River overflowed.
Authorities announced that 11 thousand people were evacuated to safe areas from the villages where the flood occurred.
Electricity was cut off in 4 villages due to the flood disaster, where no loss of life has been experienced so far.
On the other hand, 40 villages in the Jhang district of Punjab were affected by the overflow of the Chenab River.
The public has been warned of the potential risk of flooding in the area.
Monsoon rains in the period of June-September every year cause great damage in Pakistan.
Last year, 1739 people died in Pakistan due to floods caused by monsoon rains. It was announced that the cost of the flood disaster to the country was over 30 billion dollars.
