In the statement made by the Turkish-Islamic Union of Religious Affairs (DITIB), it was stated that the letter written by an unknown person with spray paint on the Hannover Central Mosque affiliated to the Union at around 04:40 local time was noticed by the congregation who came to the morning prayer, and the mosque administration was informed.
Hannover DITIB Central Mosque Association President Mehmet Zengin, whose views were included in the statement, stated that similar attacks had been carried out against their mosques before.
Expressing that they are deeply saddened by the incident, Zengin said:
“Especially our mosque community, our religious officials and we are in a state of unease and concern. We will not allow the atmosphere of peace and security in the city to be damaged in this way. We hope that the incident will be resolved by the official authorities as soon as possible, and we demand that the perpetrator or perpetrators be found and brought to justice.”
Stating that they deleted the article in question, Zengin said that they had reported the incident to the police with camera recordings.
