Pentagon Press Secretary Brigadier General Patrick Ryder reported that the previously committed tanks have reached the city of Grafenwoehr.
The US general said that Ukrainian maintenance and tank personnel will also come to Germany to receive tank training in the coming weeks.
“This comprehensive training program for Ukrainian crew and maintainers aims to prepare them for their critical role in effectively using the M1 tank and defending the Ukrainian people,” said Ryder.
The United States announced that it would deliver tanks equipped with advanced armor and weapons in January.
Initially, the US planned to procure new M1A2 Abrams tanks to ship to Ukraine using funds from the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative.
However, the Ministry of Defense decided to renew the M1A1 Abrams tanks in the US inventory in March to speed up the delivery process and give them to Ukraine.
The US administration estimates that these tanks could be at the front in Ukraine by autumn at the latest.
