According to the statement made by the Yobe state governor’s office, amnesty has been issued for 115 prisoners in different prisons in the state, as the newly elected President takes office tomorrow.
In the statement, it was informed that the people who were granted amnesty consisted of “those who were pleased with the benevolence of the governor and promised to use their freedom to correct their past mistakes”.
Noting that the government believes in measures to facilitate the rehabilitation of prisoners, the statement called on wealthy individuals to help abolish “small fines” that have resulted in many serving prison sentences.
Tinubu from the ruling party All Progressives Congress (APC), which won the elections held on February 25-26 in Nigeria, will take up his duties on May 29.
