Attack on EU ambassador in Sudan – Breaking News

Clashes between the army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have continued in Sudan since April 15. The European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Vice-President of the European Commission Josep Borrell announced that the EU Ambassador to Sudan, Aidan O’Hara, was attacked at his home.

Borrell said in a statement on his social media account, “A few hours ago, the EU Ambassador in Sudan was attacked at his residence. This is a gross violation of the Vienna Convention. “The security of diplomatic facilities and personnel is the primary responsibility of the Sudanese authorities and an obligation under international law,” he said.

O’Hara’s health status has not yet been announced.

Volker Perthes, the United Nations (UN) Special Representative for Sudan, stated that more than 180 people lost their lives and more than 1,800 people were injured in the ongoing conflicts.

Referring to the ongoing conflict, Perthes said: “This is a very volatile situation, so it’s very difficult to say where the balance is shifting.”
