Biden made a written statement about the Windsor Framework Agreement signed by the UK and the EU under the Northern Ireland Protocol.
Noting that today’s agreement is an “important step” in strengthening the hard-won Good Friday Agreement (Belfast Agreement), Biden said he appreciated the efforts of leaders and officials as part of the steps taken regarding Northern Ireland’s place in the UK and EU markets.
“I am confident that the people of Northern Ireland and business can take full advantage of the economic opportunities this stability and certainty presents,” Biden said. He also noted that the USA is ready to support the economic potential of the region.
On the other hand, Biden expressed his hope that Northern Ireland’s political institutions would be operational soon, adding that the United States looks forward to working with the governments of Northern Ireland, the United Kingdom, Ireland and the EU to advance peace and prosperity in the region.
