US State Department Spokesperson Matt Miller announced that Blinken met with the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Miller, in two separate statements, stated that Blinken emphasized the importance of Azerbaijan-Armenia peace talks to both leaders and reiterated the US’s promise of support.
In his statement regarding the meeting with Aliyev, Miller said, “Blinken shared that he believes peace is possible. He also stressed that they are deeply concerned that the establishment of a checkpoint in the Lachin corridor weakens the efforts to build confidence in the peace process, and stressed the importance of reopening the Lachin corridor to commercial and private vehicles as soon as possible.
In his statement regarding the meeting with Pashinyan, Miller said, “Blinken reiterated that direct dialogue and diplomacy are the only way to achieve a lasting peace in the South Caucasus. He also expressed his appreciation for the Prime Minister’s commitment to the peace process.
