According to the Chinese Defense Ministry’s statement, Minister Li will deliver a speech at the 11th Moscow International Security Conference, which will be held in Russia on August 15.
During his visit to Moscow, Li will hold talks with Russian defense officials during the tensions with the West due to the Russia-Ukraine War.
The Chinese Minister is expected to meet with President Alexander Lukashenko and defense officials in Belarus as well.
Li, who took office in March, visited Moscow in April and met with President Vladimir Putin.
Li also met with the Commander of the Russian Navy, Admiral Nikolay Yevmenov, in the capital Beijing during his July visit to China.
It is observed that the Russia-Ukraine War, which started at a time when China’s geostrategic rivalry with the USA and regional tensions increased, brought the Beijing administration closer to Moscow, which faces similar challenges with the perception of a “common enemy”.
While the US and Europe warn China not to provide weapons support to Russia in the war, Beijing continues its defense cooperation with Moscow, including joint military patrol exercises, even though it does not sell weapons directly.
