Reacting to the federal government’s disbanding of special forces units in the provinces in Ethiopia, Amharas took to the streets in cities such as Gondar and Dessie.
Demonstrators argue that the abolition of state special forces would leave them powerless against neighbors with border problems.
On the other hand, it was reported that two employees of the humanitarian aid organization Catholic Relief Services (CRS) were shot dead in their vehicles in the region where the demonstrations continued. Police are investigating why aid workers were targeted.
The Ethiopian government has announced that it will integrate special forces in ethnically segregated provinces into national forces.
