Death toll from landslide in Ecuador rises to 51

In the statement made by the Ecuador National Risk Management Secretariat, it was stated that the number of casualties increased in the landslide in the town of Alausi in Chimborazo state.

It was shared that the number of people who lost their lives in the disaster increased to 51, and the search for the missing people continues.

Authorities stated that there are still 37 people under the ground and a meticulous work is being carried out to reach the bodies.

It was announced that 163 houses were damaged in the landslide and 57 houses were completely destroyed.

Local media reports claimed that cracks had formed in the mountain in the region for a while, which triggered the landslide.

The Ministry of Transport and Public Works of Ecuador stated that they are working continuously to reopen the closed roads to traffic and declared an “emergency” in the state of Chimborazo on March 30.
