Ecuador’s National Risk Management Secretariat announced that new bodies were detected in the landslide in the town of Alausi in Chimborazo state.
It was shared that the number of people who lost their lives in the disaster increased to 56 and that the search for the missing people continues.
Authorities stated that there are still 30 more people under the ground and a meticulous work is being carried out to reach the bodies.
60 of the 163 damaged houses were completely destroyed
It was announced that 163 houses were damaged in the landslide and 60 houses were completely destroyed.
Local media reports claimed that cracks had formed in the mountain in the region for a while, which triggered the landslide.
Ecuador’s Ministry of Transport and Public Works had reported that it was working continuously to reopen the closed roads and that a “state of emergency” was declared in the state of Chimborazo on March 30.
