Death toll rises to 7 in attack on US Embassy staff in Nigeria

Anambra State Police Chief Echeng Echeng said in a statement to members of the press that the number of people who lost their lives in the attack targeting US employees in the Ogbaru region on May 16 had risen to 7.

Echeng stated that 2 people are still missing.

Stating that an operation was carried out against the terrorist organization Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) after the attack, Echeng said that 2 IPOB members were detained.

According to the initial reports, 2 US embassy local personnel and 2 policemen were killed in the attack on the Ogbaru region of the US Embassy employees who went to Anambra state for humanitarian aid activities on May 16.

President Buhari condemned the attack and promised that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.

While no one has claimed the attack yet, such attacks are organized by the IPOB from time to time.

Millions of people died in the civil war that broke out in 1967, when the people of Biafra rose to demand the establishment of the independent state of Biafra in the south of Nigeria.

The Republic of Biafra, which was established in the southeast of the country in 1967, came back under Nigeria’s sovereignty at the end of the civil war.
