In the statement made by the Ecuador National Risk Management Secretariat, it was stated that losses increased as a result of the landslide in the town of Alausi in Chimborazo state on March 27.
In the statement, it was shared that the number of people killed in the disaster increased to 28, the number of injured to 38, and the number of missing people to be 61.
It has been stated that 32 people have been rescued so far in the search and rescue efforts.
Authorities announced that 850 people were adversely affected by the landslide, 170 people were left homeless and 57 houses were completely destroyed.
Local media reports claimed that cracks had formed in the mountain in the region for a while, which triggered the landslide.
Ecuador’s Ministry of Transport and Public Works reported that they are working continuously to reopen the closed roads to traffic and declared an “emergency” in the state of Chimborazo on March 30.
