Election cost of political crisis in Bulgaria reaches 500 million euros

According to the report published by the Public Environment Research Institute, a great expense was placed on the treasury due to the inefficient work of the last 4 short-lived parliaments, which could not form a government.

The expenditures were transferred to many items such as preparation of the election process, printing of the ballot paper, stationery costs for the election, logistic support and personnel training.

While the cost of 5 general and one presidential elections in the country since 2021 reached 500 million euros, the biggest expenditures were the wages given to those working in the election places.

In Bulgaria, which has a population of 6.52 million, 5 million paper ballots were printed in each of the last elections. The expenditures for these ballots cost 750 thousand euros each time in the last 5 elections.

The turnout, which dropped to 40 percent in the last election, is expected to be even lower in the new early election.
