Emergency declared in 13 regions due to increase in dengue fever cases in Peru

According to the Peruvian media report, the government declared a 90-day health emergency in 13 regions of the country’s north, central and southeast.

The National Center for Disease Epidemiology, Prevention and Control reported that 11,585 dengue cases have been seen in the country since the beginning of the year, and 16 people died due to the disease.

The Ministry of Health announced that 6,741 cases were detected in the same period of 2022, but this year’s figure reached an alarming level.

The ministry noted that if deaths and cases increase further, there is a risk of spreading dengue fever to Lima with a population of 10 million.
