The EU has canceled the diplomatic reception as part of the Europe Day, which will be celebrated on 9 May in Israel, due to the planned participation of the far-right Israeli Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir.
In a statement made by the European Union Foreign Relations Service, “The EU-Israel Delegation looks forward to celebrating Europe Day in the host country on 9 May, as it does every year. unfortunately we have decided to cancel the regular diplomatic reception this year. However, the Europe Day cultural event for the people of Israel will continue to celebrate strong and constructive bilateral relations with our friends and partners in Israel.
In a statement made by Ben-Gvir’s office, “It is shameful that the international organization that claims to represent the values of democracy and multiculturalism is making non-diplomatic remarks. It is an honor and privilege for me to represent the Israeli government, the heroic Israeli soldiers and the Israeli people at every forum.
