An explosion occurred at around 12:00 local time on the 2,963-meter-high Merapi Volcano, located between the center of Indonesia’s Java Island and Yogyakarta.
It was reported that the volcano spewed ash and smoke up to 7 kilometers, and a 1.5 kilometer lava flow was observed.
Those living in areas close to the volcano were asked to stop all activities in the area designated as dangerous.
No one has been evacuated so far.
At least 200 people lost their lives as a result of the explosions that took place in Merapi Volcano in 2010, and hundreds of people had to leave their homes.
