No injuries, residents in the area must be evacuated
The oil company announced that the fire, which started in the morning, was caused by the leakage of naphtha, a flammable liquid that can be used as fuel, that the fire, approximately 65 kilometers from the city of New Orleans, was responded to, and that no one was injured in the fire, which was brought under control.
It was reported in the US media that the evacuation of all residents living in the area within a radius of 3.5 kilometers from the fire area was mandatory.
In the video recordings shared on social media, it was seen that the black and dense smoke coming out of the refinery reached a height of hundreds of meters.
According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the facility has the nation’s second-largest operating capacity and produces approximately 600,000 barrels of oil per day.
