A fire broke out at around 19.00 local time in the part of the Central de Abasto wholesale market in Mexico City, the capital of Mexico, where wooden pallets, cardboard boxes and crates are stored.
Firefighters and police teams were dispatched to the area.
The flames spread rapidly under the influence of the wind. Rising flame and dense smoke enveloped the sky.
It was learned that while the intervention of approximately 200 firefighters continued, there was no loss of life or injury.
While it is claimed that the market is the largest wholesale market in the world, it is stated that 30 percent of Mexico’s food production is offered for sale in the said market.
