Chilean Interior Minister Carolina Toha stated that more than 10 thousand people were directly affected by the floods and announced that 2 people have lost their lives and 6 people are missing so far.
Noting that they carried out a major evacuation operation in the town of Costitucion due to the overflow of the Maule River, 400 kilometers from the capital Santiago, Toha said that 2 thousand 54 people were transferred to safe places and 4 thousand 77 people were left homeless.
80% of the city was submerged
Officials announced that the Cachapoal River was also rising, and that 80 percent of the city of Coltauco was submerged, and almost all of the towns of El Mauel and Licanten were covered with water.
It was shared that the highway connecting the north and south of the country was completely closed to traffic due to floods.
Hundreds of homes damaged
It has been stated that 2 thousand 502 houses have been slightly damaged, 895 houses have been severely damaged and 54 houses have been completely destroyed so far.
President Gabriel Boric had visited areas badly damaged by the floods with local officials.
