In Spain, the Military Emergency Service, the National Emergency Monitoring and Coordination Centre, has issued a “highly hazardous” alert for a rapidly spreading forest fire near the town of Villanueva de Viver in Castellon.
Explaining that 15 aircraft are operating in the region within the scope of fire response works that have affected more than 1000 hectares of land so far, the authorities announced that 250 people were evacuated from their homes in some settlements between the cities of Castellon and Teruel due to the fire.
It was informed that many firefighters and military personnel were on duty from the land to control the fire.
Spain had one of the worst years in its history in forest fires in 2022, with a total of more than 310 thousand hectares burned.
