According to CNN’s report, hacker Delgatti said in his statement to the Brazilian Parliamentary Investigation Commission that Bolsonaro offered him to “hack” the voting machines for the 2022 elections.
Delgatti claimed he received assurances from Bolsonaro that he would “forgive him if his meddling in the election had any legal consequences against him”.
Claiming that Bolsonaro said, “If anyone tries to arrest you, I will have the judge arrested,” Delgatti explained that the plan was to create a fake code for the voting machines that would allow the vote given to one candidate to go to the other.
“Source code was kept in a vault with no internet access”
The hacker said the plan was not progressing as he stated that the existing source code used for the Brazilian electoral system was physically kept in a “vault with no internet access” and he could not access the code.
On the other hand, Bolsonaro’s lawyers denied allegations of illegal activity against any political formation in Brazil.
Bolsonaro’s defense attorney, Fabio Wajngarten, denied claims on the social media platform X, also known as Twitter, that Delgatti had spoken to the former President for an hour and a half.
The hacker’s statements came after Brazil’s Supreme Electoral Court (TSE) placed an 8-year political ban on Bolsonaro for “misconduct and media abuse”.
Delgatti was detained in a Federal Police operation in early August for trespassing on the judicial system.
