The American Bloomberg news agency, based on the news, according to sources close to the subject, stated that the said limitation step is part of a package of measures discussed by the German government to limit China’s access to necessary goods and services for advanced semiconductor production.
In the news, it was noted that if Germany’s aforementioned step is implemented, German chemical companies such as Merck and BASF may limit the sale of some of their semiconductor chemicals to China.
On the other hand, German Economy and Climate Protection Minister Robert Habeck stated that Germany is evaluating export restrictions to China in the field of technology.
Habeck emphasized that Germany should not lose its technology leadership, conveying that Germany considers export restrictions to China “similar to the US’s restrictions on chip exports to Beijing”.
Meanwhile, China has been on the record as Germany’s largest trading partner for the past 7 years, while the German public debates its economic dependence on China.
