Mexico’s National Health, Safety and Food Quality Service (Senasica) launched an investigation after hundreds of birds were found dead on beaches in the states of Chiapas and Baja California, Mexico News Daily reported.
While Senasica officials suspected the H5N1 virus, known as bird flu, it was determined that the birds died of starvation after the examinations.
In the statement made by the Mexican Ministry of Agriculture, it was stated that the fishes in the Pacific Ocean, which warmed up due to the “El Nino” weather events, died of starvation as a result of the fish diving deep to reach cooler waters.
On the Pacific coasts of Chile and Peru, mass bird deaths due to “El Nino” have been seen before.
