In a press release by the Louisville police, it was stated that 23-year-old Connor Sturgeon had recently legally purchased the long-barreled gun used in the attack on the bank where he was an employee.
Deputy Chief Constable Aaron Crowell confirmed that the suspect was using an AR-15-style semi-automatic rifle, but did not provide further details.
Crowell stated that the attack took place within 9 minutes, the police arrived at the scene 3 minutes after the first report and neutralized the attacker 3 minutes after that.
Kentucky State Assemblyman Morgan McGarvey also said at the press conference that Sturgeon was suicidal and shared the thought of attacking with a person he had contacted, and left a written note.
It was stated that 5 people were killed and 8 people were injured in the gun attack that took place at the Old National Bank financial institution in Louisville, Kentucky on Monday morning.
The Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) announced that it had reached the bank upon a tip and intervened and killed the attacker.
LMPD Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel confirmed at the press conference that the attacker was a 23-year-old male named Connor Sturgeon.
Stating that the suspect was broadcasting live on Instagram during the attack, the police chief noted that these recordings were removed from the internet.
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear also shared the information that he lost 2 of his close friends in the attack, and stated that the flags in the state would be lowered at half-mast for the victims until Friday.
