With few days left before the election, Presidential candidate Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu spoke to German Deutsche Welle’s Turkish newspaper and gave messages about domestic and foreign policy.
Kılıçdaroğlu evaluated the convictions of Selahattin Demirtaş and Osman Kavala in prison.
Reminding the decision of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) to release Demirtaş and Kavala, Kılıçdaroğlu said that this decision would be implemented and argued that the two names were in prison for thought crimes.
Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu also touched upon Turkey’s international relations and said, “We will change Turkey’s foreign policy 180 degrees.”
“Our direction is the West”
He stated that they will implement all the democratic rules stipulated by the EU.
Kılıçdaroğlu, who made the comment that “Western civilization is our direction” regarding Turkey-Russia relations, emphasized that they only want to take relations with Russia on a good ground.
He stated that they did not approve and did not accept the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Kılıçdaroğlu said that if they come to power, they will enact a law on overseas constituencies. Thus, he noted that Turks abroad can send their own deputies to the Parliament.
