Expanding their search area, Pennsylvania State Police suspect that Cavalcante, who was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his girlfriend, may still be hiding at the Longwood Botanical Garden, about eight miles southwest of Chester Prison, ABC News reported.
“He was trying to escape, and he succeeded. He found a point where he could break through the security circle and fled south,” Pennsylvania State Police official George Bevins told reporters.
Stating that the botanical garden was closed today due to a police call, Bevins said that Cavalcante was viewed twice by the security cameras in the botanical garden.
Stating that the fugitive was first seen walking in the north direction in the botanical garden on Monday evening, Bevins said that he was recorded walking in the south direction by the same camera, one hour apart.
Bevins, who shared the latest photos of the escaped prisoner with the press, said that Cavalcante was wearing a hooded top, with a backpack and a duffel bag.
‘Surrender’ message from fugitive’s mother in Brazil
According to Pennsylvania State Police official George Bevins, Cavalcante’s mother recorded a message for her son to surrender without trouble.
Stating that the message was announced from police helicopters and vehicles, Bevins stated that the mother tongue of the escaped prisoner was Portuguese, the message recorded to his mother in Brazil.
Education was suspended in some schools in the region today due to the operation carried out by the police to catch the fugitive.
It was shared that Cavalcante, who was previously stated to be a “former gang member”, was wanted for killing a person who owed money to him in Brazil in 2017.
One day before he was caught on camera, the deserter, who was spotted by the state police in the Pocopson Town of Cavalcante from afar, was 1.80 meters tall and weighed 120 kilograms, but could not be caught despite the police pursuit.
$10,000 reward for the capture of Cavalcante
The US Law Enforcement Service and local officials offered a $10,000 reward to anyone who would provide information that would contribute to Cavalcante’s capture.
Cavalcante was detained in April 2021 for the murder of his ex-girlfriend.
According to a Facebook post by the District Attorney’s Office, Cavalcante stabbed his ex-girlfriend Brandao to death in front of his two young children after “he said he would report him to the police after learning that he was wanted for murder in Brazil.”
