In the voting held at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), the decision to extend UNAMI’s mandate for another 12 months was unanimously accepted.

UNAMI, which has the mission of assisting the government in Iraq’s development and reconstruction as well as ensuring security, also has a duty to monitor human rights violations in Iraq.
UNAMI was established by UNSC Resolution 1500 on 14 August 2003, after the US and allied forces invaded Iraq.
