Measles outbreak warning to 20,000 people attending a religious event in the USA

A statement from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) warned that someone who attended an event organized by a Christian group at Asbury University in Wilmore, Kentucky last month was later diagnosed with measles.

“If you attended the Asbury University meeting on February 17-18 and you do not have a measles vaccine or are incomplete, you should quarantine for 21 days and monitor your symptoms to avoid infecting others with measles,” the statement said.

The statement also recommended that people who have not been vaccinated should be vaccinated against measles, mumps and rubella (MMR).

Authorities warn that the measles virus is extremely contagious through the respiratory route and is the main cause of this epidemic worldwide, especially in child deaths, despite the vaccines developed in this regard.
