Shoigu, who is in Minsk, Belarus to attend the meeting of the Council of Defense Ministers of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), met with the Minister of Defense of Belarus Hrenin.
During the meeting, Shoigu and Hrenin signed documents on “Russia’s process of storing non-strategic nuclear weapon in storage facility in Belarus”.
Shoigu, in his statement here, stated that the documents in question comply with international law and said, “Russia does not give nuclear weapons to Belarus. The control over this weapon and the decision on its use belong to the Russian side.” said.
Stating that this was done to ensure the security of the Russian-Belarusian Union State and that additional steps will be taken in this direction in the future, Shoigu said, “We have to take mutual measures in the field of military nuclear in a situation where threats have increased very sharply and NATO’s nuclear activities have become active.” he said.
Reminding that high-precision “Alexander-M” missile systems were previously delivered to Belarus, Shoigu pointed out that this system has the ability to use nuclear missiles.
Shoigu, “Some of the Belarusian warplanes have been made suitable for the use of nuclear weapons. Belarusian soldiers also received training on this subject.” used the phrases.
“The installation of nuclear weapons, a response to Western countries”
Belarusian Defense Minister Hrenin also stressed that the deployment of Russian nuclear weapons in his country is a response to the “unfriendly” and “aggressive” policies of Western countries.
Stating that necessary steps have been taken to ensure the security of the Russian-Belarusian Union State, Hrenin expressed that they attach importance to strengthening the capability of the Belarusian Armed Forces.
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced in March that they would place tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus. Putin also stated that the “Alexander” high-precision missile systems, which they had previously delivered to Belarus, would be equipped with the aforementioned weapon.
