The two countries are connected by oil pipeline, railway and natural gas lines.
Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan Petroleum and Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum Natural Gas pipelines were completed.
Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railway, which is the ‘Iron Silk Road’, was put into service in 2017.
A year later, TANAP was completed, carrying the gas extracted from the Shah Deniz to Europe via Turkey.
The share of the sister country in meeting Turkey’s oil and natural gas needs came first. On the other hand, Türkiye became a bridge in Azerbaijan’s energy exports to the West.
Its role in energy security reinforced Azerbaijan’s geopolitical position and diplomatic power.
Removed visa and trade barriers
The two countries carried their cooperation to other fields as well.
Visa duration increased from 30 days to 90 days; Then visa-free travel started.
Identity documents can be used instead of passports at border crossings.
While the difficulties in customs were eliminated, the trade volume increased.
Joint exercises were held
Military cooperation between Türkiye and Azerbaijan was reinforced with joint exercises.
The Turkish Armed Forces shared its experience with more than ten exercises per year.
The army of the sister country was also equipped with the national defense industry products developed by Turkish engineers.
With Turkey’s astute stance and support, Azerbaijan regained its lands under Armenian occupation in Karabakh.
Support projects to Nakhchivan
Nakhchivan was not forgotten either. With the instruction of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the Nakhchivan-Kars Railway and Iğdır-Nahçıvan Natural Gas Line projects were implemented.
The cooperation mechanisms between the two countries contributed to regional stability, solidarity and prosperity.
The close work of the leaders and the strong will they displayed were an important factor in the development of relations.
