In the decision of the Constitutional Court, it was emphasized that the parliament cannot pass laws on any subject related to its jurisdiction and powers.
The said law, which was passed by the National Assembly on 14 April by the coalition government, whose term ended on 9 August, was approved by the Senate on 5 May and signed by President Arif Alvi.
Nawaz Sharif and Jahangir Tarin planned to appeal court rulings
The court’s decision challenged the hopes of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Cihangir Tarin, who founded a new political party named “Istihkam-i Pakistani Party (IPP)” on 8 June 2023, to return to active politics.
It was emphasized that both names, who were banned from politics for life, aimed to object to the court decisions given against them by the law in question.
