In a written statement from the Palestinian Presidency, “Israel has imposed restrictions on believers’ access to places of worship and participation in Holy Saturday celebrations at the Church of the Apocalypse. We strongly support the demands of churches in the city of Jerusalem to allow Christian pilgrims to attend Holy Saturday ceremonies without any problems.”
Reminding the attacks on holy religious sites in Jerusalem, the statement emphasized that the Israeli occupation authorities, who insist on creating an atmosphere of violence and chaos and increasing tension, are responsible for the consequences of this dangerous escalation.
The Presidency called on Christian pilgrims to go to the Church of the Apocalypse and participate freely and peacefully in Holy Saturday activities.
In the statement, which called for the international community, especially the US administration, to intervene immediately, it was demanded that Israel, which hinders the freedom of worship of Muslims and Christians equally, should be stopped from committing these crimes.
In a written statement made by the Commission of Churches in Jerusalem yesterday, it was announced by the Israeli police that it would unreasonably restrict participation in Holy Saturday celebrations.
Holy Saturday is celebrated as one of the most important religious holidays of Christians, where it is believed that Jesus Christ will be resurrected after his crucifixion.
