Paris became the city with the highest number of elderly deaths due to extreme heat in Europe

The study, published by The Lancet Planetary Health, examined death rates from extreme heat or cold in 854 cities in 30 European countries between 2000 and 2009.

According to the research, 203 thousand 620 people die annually in Europe due to cold and 20 thousand 173 people die due to heat.

While the sensitivity to hot weather increases with age, Paris was the city with the highest death rate due to extreme heat in Europe.

On the other hand, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced that at least 15 thousand people lost their lives due to the hot weather in 2022 in Europe.
