Discussions continue in Portugal over the former manager of TAP Portugal, Alexander Reis, receiving 500,000 euros in compensation when he left the company in February 2022, and his appointment as Treasury Secretary of State a few months later.
The left government, which took action after the report of the Inspector General of Finance (IGF) that the compensation received by Reis was illegal, announced that TAP Portugal President Manuel Baja and top manager Christine Ourmiere-Widener were dismissed from their posts.
It has been announced that Luis Rodrigues, chairman of the Azores archipelago airline SATA, has been appointed as chairman and chief executive officer of TAP Portugal.
“It was necessary to turn a new leaf in this company,” said Finance Minister Fernando Medina. said.
The IGF declared the agreement between Reis and TAP Portugal invalid on the grounds that “serious shortcomings were detected” and demanded that the former manager repay 450 thousand 110 euros and 26 cents from the compensation he received.
The compensation that Reis received caused polemics in the government, causing the resignations of both him and the Minister of Infrastructure and Housing, Pedro Nuno Santos, in December 2022.
