In his speech at the 32nd Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference held in the capital Berlin with the title “Strengthening the democratic resilience in the Baltic Sea region”, Bas stated that it is necessary to address the dangers to democracy, especially from the digital realm, and said, “The fact that our societies are open and free makes our societies democratic. makes him the target of his enemies.”
“We need well-informed citizens if we want to protect democracy from disinformation,” Bas said, demanding that the public be informed of the dangers of disinformation and fake news.
Noting that propaganda, hate speech and fake news spread rapidly on the internet and social media, Speaker Bas noted that they saw how open people were to manipulation during the epidemic period.
Referring also to the Ukraine-Russia War, Bas asked the countries that have a coast on the Baltic Sea to continue to stand by Ukraine.
Bas stated that after Russia left the institutions formed by the countries bordering the Baltic Sea, the close cooperation of the riparian countries gained even more importance and said, “It is very important that we defend the Baltic Sea region as a good neighborly region.”

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock also sent a video message to the meeting.
In his message, Baerbock stated that they have taken their cooperation in the Baltic Sea Region to a new level in recent months and said, “We share a natural treasure with the Baltic Sea in the heart of Europe. We want to preserve this treasure and use it even better in the future.”
Stating that they aim to install 7 times more wind turbines in the Baltic Sea by 2030, Baerbock added that they want to make the Baltic Sea a “clean power plant” together.
