According to the news in the Irish media, some ATMs belonging to the Bank of Ireland, while giving higher amounts of money to those who want to withdraw smaller sums, even allowed customers who do not have money in their account to withdraw money.
With the dissemination of information on social media, those who wanted to withdraw money from the said ATMs formed long lines.
In the statement made by the police officials, it was stated that “extraordinary human activity and noise” were reported at 40 different points, and police were sent to these points.
In the statement made by the Bank of Ireland on the social media platform X, formerly Twitter, it was stated that there was a technical problem in the ATM and bank mobile application, and the following was noted:
“We would like to remind our customers that money transfers and withdrawals above normal limits will be reflected in their accounts. We are aware that our customers cannot control their balances, but you should not make any extra withdrawals or transfers.”
The bank later announced that the technical problem was resolved and both the ATMs and the mobile application started to work normally.
