According to the news broadcast by the Greek radio, Archbishop Georgios, in his Easter message, called for “mobilization for national existence” and argued that “mobilization is needed for the guarantee of a national existence in the ancestral lands”.
The Archbishop also wrote in the newspaper Simerini, “We can take up arms, we can well defend ourselves and we can win our freedom.” He called on the Greek Cypriot people to stand against Turkey’s plans.
“It harms peace and tranquility in the Eastern Mediterranean”
In his statements to journalists, TRNC President Ersin Tatar stated that he found the Archbishop’s statements outdated and that such statements harmed peace and tranquility in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Calling the Greek Cypriot authorities to make prudent statements, Tatar emphasized that he did not find meaningless and unnecessary statements correct.
Human Rights Association: George’s call, confirmation of Greek-Greek expansionism
In a written statement made by the Human Rights Association operating in the TRNC, there was also a reaction against Georgios’ words.
In the statement signed by the President of the Association, Hasan Yılmaz Işık, it was emphasized that the words and call of Georgios was a confirmation of Greek-Greek expansionism beyond a security problem.
Reminding that the Greek Cypriot Orthodox Church, despite having all kinds of privileges under the Ottoman State, pioneered the Greek-Greek expansionism on the way to unification with Greece, the United Nations (UN) said: invited to meet.
Priests were given shooting training
In the past, priests in the Greek Cypriot Administration were given shooting training under the supervision of Greek Cypriot National Guard (RMMO) soldiers.
The Greek Ministry of Defense, which made a statement after the Greek priests from the Constantia Metropolitity received a reaction on the social media, claimed that the incident was a momentary situation and accepted that the Metropolitan gave financial support for the renewal of the shooting range.
The Greek Cypriot administration had increased its armament program to the highest level of the last 20 years by allocating 200 million euros from this year’s budget to the purchase of arms.
The recent armament attempts of the Greek Cypriot Administration of Cyprus are met with reaction by the TRNC administrators on the grounds that they threaten the stability in the Eastern Mediterranean.
