According to the news of the French-language newspaper La Derniere Heure, Belgian Minister of Immigration and Asylum Nicole de Moor stated in her speech at the Parliament that 6,434 unaccompanied asylum-seeker children were registered in 2022 compared to the previous year.
De Moor noted that this is the highest figure ever.
Noting that 2,200 of these children are between the ages of 11-15, Moor said that this situation does not necessitate the opening of new shelters.
There has been a long-standing crisis in Belgium about the lack of shelter for asylum seekers.
As the refugee reception centers are full, these people, regardless of their age or gender, are forced to sleep on the streets.
