Icelandic Prime Minister Katrin Jakobsdottir and EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen held a press conference before the Fourth European Council Summit.
Von der Leyen thanked Iceland for making the focus of its rotating presidency the issue of punishing those responsible for war crimes in Ukraine.
Von der Leyen stated that she is happy that a “Damage Record” mechanism will be launched at the summit in order to create the first step for Russia to pay compensation to Ukraine in the future in this context. said.
Von der Leyen emphasized that they support Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s peace formula and said, “Zelenskiy is very open to discuss this. However, the important thing for all of us is that this formula is the basis on which we work.” he said.

Icelandic Prime Minister Jakobsdottir also stated that in tonight’s session of the summit, how to proceed on the peace formula in question will be discussed, and that Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmigal will also attend the session.
Fourth Summit of the Council of Europe
Representatives of the 46 member states of the Council of Europe are coming together for a two-day meeting in Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland, the term president.
The summit, where the latest developments in Europe and current challenges will be discussed, aims to increase the support given to Ukraine.
At the end of the summit, Iceland will hand over the Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe to Latvia.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director for EU Affairs Ambassador Mehmet Kemal Bozay represents Turkey at the summit.
Russia was expelled from the Council of Europe on March 16, 2022.
