Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy announced on his social media account that Ukraine’s Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov was dismissed.
“This week, parliament will be asked to make a personnel decision. I have decided to replace the Minister of Defense of Ukraine. Oleksiy Reznikov suffered a large-scale war that lasted more than 550 days. I believe the Ministry needs new approaches and other forms of interaction with both the military and society as a whole. Rustem Umerov will now be the Minister of Defense. Umerov needs no additional introduction. “I expect parliament to support this nomination,” he said.
Former deputy Rustem Umerov (41) has been the Head of the State Wealth Fund of Ukraine since September 2022. It is stated that Umerov has an important role in war agreements for Ukraine, especially the Black Sea Grain Initiative.
