There are different reactions to the introduction of family control of social media under the age of 18. According to experts, the most rational solution is to teach children about social media literacy.
Experts emphasize that similar laws should be implemented and supported by education.
Social Media and Digital Security Association President Prof. Dr. Levent Eraslan said, “When we examine the law in Utah, it allows families to monitor children’s messages and also to enter the system by obtaining their permission. I find this positive and hope it will come to our country as soon as possible. We have to process social media literacy very intensively, especially in schools.”
The law, approved in Utah, will go into effect on March 1, 2014.
