Khalif made statements regarding the ban decision of Tiktok, Telegram social media platforms and the betting site.
Explaining that the government has been working on the ban decision for a long time, Khalif said, “These platforms adversely affect the youth and the public. It is extremely harmful both in terms of ethics, behavior and religion. At the same time, these platforms cause serious problems in terms of security.”
Terrorists and those who create security problems use Telegram in the first place
Khalif stated that the decision to close these platforms was late and said:
“Telegram is the first platform used by people who create security problems. As the government, we have been planning to close these social media tools for a long time, and it’s time to close them. There are other platforms that we are considering closing, and we are considering taking a decision on this issue in the near future.”
Khalif stated that the government continues to work to close some social media platforms with similar content, and replied to the criticisms of the decision, “This is not a pressure, it is not persecution at all, it is a duty of the government”.
Noting that the decision was aimed at protecting security and religious values, Khalif said, “The government is aware that Somali youth is deteriorated due to these platforms. We have to prevent this so that Somali youth do not break with their morals and traditions. disappear,” he said.
