Solution efforts for the political crisis that has been going on for 16 months
The political process aims to resolve the governance crisis that has raged since the military coup on October 25, 2021, when military commander Abdel Fattah al-Burhan declared a state of emergency and seized civilian rule.
The civilian forces, which signed the “framework agreement” with the military to end the political crisis on December 5, 2022, started the final phase of the current political process on January 8, which would pave the way for the new transition period and lead the parties to a final agreement.
The final agreement covers five key issues: justice, security and military reform, maintaining peace, removing the vestiges of the old regime and the issue of East Sudan.
Prominent provisions of the “framework agreement” include the start of a two-year transitional period, the establishment of an all-civil government, and the removal of the military from power.
