Taliban demand European countries to open their embassies in Afghanistan

Muttaki met with EU Special Representative for Afghanistan Tomas Niklasson and his delegation in Kandahar province in southern Afghanistan.

Hafez Ziya Ahmed, Deputy Foreign Ministry Spokesperson of the Taliban interim government, made a statement on the content of the meeting on his personal Twitter account.

Ahmed said that Muttaki said that necessary steps should be taken to improve diplomatic relations between Afghanistan and EU countries and that EU countries should be encouraged to reopen their embassies in Kabul.

Ahmed also noted that Muttaki thanked the EU for the humanitarian aid provided to Afghanistan.

According to the information given by the Taliban official, EU Special Representative Niklasson stated that with the coming to power of the Taliban, security was ensured in Afghanistan and serious steps were taken in the fight against corruption.

Niklasson also stated that they will continue humanitarian aid to Afghanistan.

EU countries closed their embassies there on August 15, 2021, when the Taliban came to the administration of Afghanistan.
